Monica is widely recognised for her pioneering role as Chief
Executive Officer of STRATE, where she led one of the most significant shifts
in South Africa’s financial markets. Under her leadership, the country moved
from physical share certificates to a fully digital system, a change that
reshaped the efficiency, transparency and integrity of the market for
generations to come. Her work did not simply modernise infrastructure, it
fundamentally altered how value is recorded and exchanged in South Africa.
Continuing this path of innovation, Monica has been at the
forefront of blockchain and digital asset development through her work with
Consensys and the Global Digital Asset and Cryptocurrency Association. She has
dedicated herself to educating professionals and newcomers alike on the
potential of Bitcoin, Ether and blockchain technology, always with the
intention of making complex systems understandable and accessible.
Her passion for learning and professional development is
further reflected in her role with the University of Johannesburg as a
Professor of Practice, where she contributes to shaping blockchain guidelines
for current and future chartered accountants. In doing so, she continues to
invest in the next generation of leaders and practitioners.
In 2022, Monica was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has
spoken openly about how the experience has changed her perspective on health,
prevention and the impact of stress. Her willingness to share her journey has
created space for important conversations about awareness, early detection and
the importance of proactive wellbeing.
Monica is not only a breast cancer survivor, she is a leader
